| WRITING | ADVISOR | STATEMENT |
|

Sabrina AJEEP Sophomore UNDECLARED Major |
Hi there! I’m Sabrina and I’ve always been passionate about writing across many different disciplines including history, art and literature. I also love reading novels (when I have time to spare!) and editing papers to help not only others but also myself in expanding my writing ability. When I’m not reading or writing, you’ll find me working out, snapping photographs with my Polaroid or enjoying my daily dosage of hot chocolate. I’ll apply my best editing skills to assure you have every essential element you need for a solid paper. Whether you’ve already completed a full paper, halfway done or need to talk it out before getting those words down, I’m here to help you at any stage! :] |

Mary BRANT Junior ENGLISH & COMPARATIVE LITERARY STUDIES Major ABROAD FALL 2011 |
English has always been my favorite subject in school and writing is one of my favorite activities. Here at Oxy I am an intended ECLS major. I also run and long jump for the track team, volunteer on campus, and play ultimate frisbee and the clarinet. I love laughing, having a good conversation about life and writing, and doing spontaneous interpretive dances. I look forward to working with you! |

Alexandra COAKLEY Senior Class of 2012 HISTORY Major |
"That's all we have
finally, the words, and they had better be the right ones." |

Jocelyn COFFIN Junior DIPLOMACY & WORLD AFFAIRS Major |
I'm a Diplomacy and World Affairs major with a great love for writing. I hope to combine my DWA background and writing skills to pursue a future career in journalism. I'm greatly inspired by the works of my favorite writers, Ernest Hemingway and Hunter S. Thompson. Overall, I love writing because it is a process of exploration- learning about new people, places, and things, but also about myself. |

Jamie |
As a AHVA major, art has always been one of my lifelong passions. But writing is also something that I have been devoted to. For me, writing is another mode of a creativity. There's so much I want to encompass, but sometimes struggle to achieve. Whether it's finding the right words, the right transitions, or a voice, writing never ceases to challenge me. Writing is personal, and has played an integral part in all facets of my life. |

Cassie CROSBY Junior ECONOMICS Major |
I'm an intended Econ major, but I've always loved English a little more. I read everything I can get my hands on, excluding books with unnecessarily large font, and I especially like Carl Hiaasen, J. D. Salinger, and Nicole Krauss. Alternative/pop music is a must, as are running and Calvin and Hobbes. I honestly like editing, so if you need just a little help or a complete revamp, I am entirely here for you. I'll even use a blue pen, instead of red, the soften the blows. One word of advise: don't procrastinate! It just makes both of our lives harder. I look forward to assisting you as best I can. |

Sarah DOYEL Junior DIPLOMACY & WORLD AFFAIRS Major |
Hello, hola, bonjour, ciao! My name is Sarah and I am a sophomore DWA major here at Occidental. As a devoted reader and writer of prose and poetry, I have always loved language. I have too many beloved writers to choose a favorite, but I have a special fondness for Pablo Neruda and Shakespeare. Though I’ve spent most of my life devouring books in English, I am currently branching out into Spanish literature. I look forward to assisting you with all your editing needs, from organizing your ideas to fine-tuning your prose. Don’t be afraid to come with questions, confusions and “crazy” ideas – those often become your best papers! |
|
|
Teigynn KNIGHT Senior Class of 2012 HISTORY Major |
My name is Teigynn (pronounced like “vegan” with a “T,” in case you’re wondering). I am obsessed with all things historical, including Mad Men, 60’s music, waltzing, and vintage clothes. This will be my third year working as a writing adviser at the CAE. I love reading papers from different disciplines as it gives me a peek at all the fascinating classes that simply wouldn’t fit into my schedule. So, stop by and see me! I’m happy to help, no matter where you are in the writing process.

Sant KUMAR Junior ENGLISH & COMPARATIVE LITERARY STUDIES Major |
I am from the bay area and follow the San Francisco Giants and the Golden State Warriors. My favorite book is "Of Mice and Men" by John Steinbeck. I believe tutoring is important because school is too difficult to go at it alone. My favorite pasttime is watching television. |

Aidan LEWIS Senior Class of 2012 ENGLISH & COMPARATIVE LITERARY STUDIES Major |
Writing has often brought me to a state of exasperation like J. Alfred Prufrock's--"It is impossible to say just what I mean!" Crafting a clear, interesting, and logical paper is a difficult process, and I've learned that an outside perspective can be indispensable. Having someone else look over your work can completely revive a moribund essay. So if you just need a little feedback, or if you're completely lost and need directions back to the academic highway, come visit me and we'll sort things out. I like good discussions about literature, religion/ philosophy, travel, language, and music. If you don't have an urgent paper to work on, we can always chat. |
|
|
Carly MEE Junior SOCIOLOGY Major |
I'm a Sociology major and an intended ECLS minor, and I'm really passionate about social justice. I was born in Toronto, Canada and after moving around the world a couple times I'm now settled in just outside of LA when I'm not at Oxy. My interests include languages, photography, reading, swimming, and traveling. I love writing, as well as working with people, so please come and see me! I've had a great deal of experience with writing at Oxy and written too many papers to count, so I'm confident that I can help you get your thoughts onto paper in a clear, well-written way! |

Marina ROSENTHAL Senior Class of 2012 PSYCHOLOGY Major |
Marina is a senior Psychology major who loves to read your papers, soothe your woes, and charm your socks off. Come see her in the lovely CAE for a delightful session of writing assistance and witty banter. |

Lily STRELICH Sophomore UNDECLARED Major |
I am an undeclared sophomore and an avid reader and writer, and one thing I’ve learned is that writing can be a difficult process, but a fresh perspective makes a helpful difference no matter the subject. Often all it takes is a simple question from an onlooker to facilitate a constructive thought process or essay epiphany. I am excited for the chance to be that onlooker, and assist you in the process of crafting eloquent, cohesive and effective papers. I look forward to working with you! |

Joshua THROCKMORTON Senior Class of 2012 AMERICAN STUDIES Major |
Josh is a Senior American Studies major and History minor from Bedford, Massachusetts. A huge sports fan, Josh plays infield for the Tigers' baseball team and is the college's PA announcer for football, volleyball, basketball, and soccer games. Over the past three summers he has broadcasted Cape Cod Baseball League games for the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox, and hopes to one day work either as an athletic director or in a front office position for a professional baseball or hockey team. Josh usually can be found watching Boston Bruins games or Community re-runs on Hulu in Erdman Hall when he's not on the baseball field or studying in the library. |

John UGAI Sophomore UNDECLARED Major |
Although currently an undeclared major, I’m leaning towards one in Economics. I spend a lot of my time on the baseball field playing for the Tigers. However, I can also be found hanging out in the library or watching classic episodes of 30 Rock and How I Met Your Mother. F. Scott Fitzgerald is definitely one of my favorite authors, but I must admit I enjoy writing more than reading. I’m excited to meet anyone who wants a second pair of eyes to look over their paper. Whether you need a little or a lot of help, come on in; I’d be glad to help. |

Megan UPP Junior MATHEMATICS Major |
Hi, I’m Megan. The three things in life I could not live without are the beach, volleyball, and steak. Other less vital activities that I enjoy are reading, watching medical television shows, suffering through a tough math problem, and editing papers. I enjoy getting to know people through their writing, because I feel that when we write, we are more likely to say what we truly think and feel. I am a math major, so I look at writing almost like a proof. When editing, I try to ensure that the writer has a logical and coherent argument that leads to a conclusion. I look forward to getting to know Oxy students through reading their papers! |

Valerie WALKER Junior POLITICS Major ABROAD FALL 2011 |
As a writing adviser, I will strive to help you write focused papers that are both insightful and organized. Hopefully I can provide you with feedback that develops your writing and improves your academic success. Outside of the CAE, I enjoy performing as a pianist and in chorus. Also, I like to volunteer on campus. I look forward to meeting you and helping you at any stage in the writing process. =] |

|
Chelsea YIN Sophomore CHEMISTRY Major ENGLISH & COMPARATIVE LITERARY STUDIES Minor |
Having a community to share work with has been an invaluable gift to
my growth as a writer. Although I was once reluctant to reveal my
thoughts and grammatical errors, the insightful input of others
pushed my writing to new heights and even inspired confidence. Here
at the CAE, I hope to do the same for writers at any stage of the
process. So, be it an enchanting fairytale that could use a little
sparkle or a scholarly article that needs some edge, come to the CAE
and I would love to work with you. |
