TIPS FOR VISITING STUDENT PEER ADVISERS

1. SUNDAY - THURSDAY EVENINGS
Peer Advisers are available on a drop-in basis Sunday through Thursday evenings. They may be available as few as 45 minutes,* two nights per week, or for      up to 2 hours, 5 nights per week. Most are drop-in only, but some also offer appointments, or are by appointment only. Check the Peer Adviser schedule to know the exact hours. Drop-in hours are first-come, first-served. Your time will be limited to thirty minutes on any one night.

*45-minute sessions, where noted in the Peer Adviser schedule, will be extended, if you arrive before the end of the 45 minutes.

2. LOCATION - "ADVISER IS IN" SIGNS
Peer Advisers may be in various areas of the CAE, but you will be able to find them by checking the bulletin board in the hallway of the CAE. On that bulletin board, the Advisers will sign in AND indicate their location. Advisers will also put a sign out, "The Adviser is in," either at the table where they are sitting or in the hallway outside the office they are in.

3. WHAT TO BRING
Bring a copy of the assignment, and, if possible, your notes on the professor's instructions about the assignment. Also, bring relevant textbooks or readings for the course.

4. WELCOME to STUDY in CAE AREA
You are welcome to come to the Advisers as often as you wish for help. You are welcome to study nearby the CAE area, so that you can come see the Peer Advisers whenever you have questions on your homework or readings.

5. PROFESSOR RECOMMENDED YOU TO VISIT CAE
If you have been told by your professor that you need help in a particular area, tell the Adviser at the beginning of your meeting.

6. PEER ADVISER vs WRITING ADVISER
The Peer Adviser will help you with  the disciplinary knowledge in your paper only.  See a student Writing Adviser or a faculty Writing Specialist for writing strategies and techniques to use to articulate your knowledge.

7. CAE OFFICE ASSISTANT
If you cannot locate the Peer Adviser you are seeking, and it is Sunday through Thursday, between 7:30 pm and 10 pm, look for the CAE Office Assistant. This person, who is also one of the peer advisers, will have a "CAE Office Assistant" sign nearby, and will usually sit near the CAE bulletin board, just outside the CAE Seminar Room. The Office Assistant's job is to help you locate peer advisers and peer advising information.

8. WAITING TOO LONG? LET US KNOW!
If you waited for over two hours to meet with a Peer Adviser and were not able to do so, please contact Jerilynn Powers at the CAE to document unmet demand. Let us know of your unsuccessful attempt by calling (323) 259-2545, by sending e-mail to powers@oxy.edu or by leaving a note in the slot on the door of the CAE Office [Room 32]. Please leave your name and e-mail address.

9. GIVE US FEEDBACK
