Virtual Fly
Genetics Exercise
Due In Class Monday, October 30
1. Go to the Virtual Fly Lab. Note that you must use this link. The link on the Campbell website no longer works. (The program has become a subscription only program, but by using the link to the Australia site, the program is still available free until January 1. Lucky for us!)
2. Download the worksheet (Word version or rtf version).
3. Design a dihybrid cross. Be sure that you have a female with one mutation and a male with a second mutation. Enter the cross you have chosen on your worksheet.
4. Perform the cross. Write down your results.
5. Perform F1 crosses as needed to determine how each mutation is inherited (recessive, dominant, sex-linked). Write down your results for each F1 cross (i.e. list the numbers and phenotypes of the F2 offspring.
6. List each mutation and how it is inherited.
