Anthropology Majors must complete the following courses:

  • 100: Introduction to Cultural Anthropology (freshman or sophomore year)

  • LING 301: Introduction to Linguistic Structure (strongly encouraged)

  • 370: Ethnographic Research Methods (sophomore or junior year)

  • 2 theory seminars, such as:

    • SOC 200: Classical Sociological Theory

    • WSGS 301: Ethnographies of One

    • 320: Sociopolitics of Archaeology

    • 371: Contemporary Anthropological Theory

    • 372: History of Anthropology and Colonialism

    • 373: Archaeology and Popular Culture

  • 490: Senior Seminar in Anthropology (senior year)

  • 16 units of electives in Anthropology.  A few specified classes taught by anthropologists in Women's Studies/Gender Studies and Religious Studies can be counted as electives in Anthropology.

Anthropology Majors must also complete the Department's comps process.

All anthropology majors are encouraged to avail themselves of opportunities to study abroad, to attend summer field school in archaeology, and to conduct summer ethnographic fieldwork.
